On July 11, 2024, the Quad Investors Network’s (QUIN) Quantum Center of Excellence published its final report, titled “Quantum Science and Technology in the QUAD Nations: Landscape and Opportunities.” The report detailed the quantum capabilities of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, identified challenges each country faces, and laid out actions the QUIN could take to advance quantum computing, communications, and sensing across the four nations.

Four co-chairs led the effort: Dr. Cathy Foley, Chief Scientist of Australia; Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India; Prof. Hiroaki Aihara, Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo; and Dr. Celia Merzbacher, Executive Director of the Quantum Economic Development Consortium. Task forces covered quantum computing, communications, sensing, and ecosystem and workforce development.

Dr. Merzbacher stated that the report “aims to highlight areas that the government and the private sector can address to accelerate the pace of innovation in the quantum technology industries.” According to the report, the global market for quantum technologies was projected to exceed $173 billion by 2040, with more than 600,000 new positions expected worldwide. QUIN Chairman Emeritus Karl Mehta said the collaboration “aims to sustain Quad’s leadership in this critical and emerging tech.”
