Saudi Arabia marked World Quantum Day with a scientific event on April 17-18, 2024, during which the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Saudi Arabia launched its Quantum Economy project. According to the Saudi Press Agency, C4IR Managing Director Dr. Basma Al-Buhairan revealed the project’s launch, describing it as a platform for collaboration between the public, private, and academic sectors in the Kingdom.
Organized by C4IR Saudi Arabia in collaboration with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and King Salman Science Oasis, the event convened figures from research, development, and innovation. Panel discussions covered quantum science promotion, the role of education and awareness in quantum adoption, and Saudi Arabia’s path toward a quantum economy.
C4IR Saudi Arabia, established in 2020 as a World Economic Forum affiliate centre hosted at KACST, undertook the project in connection with the Forum’s Quantum Economy Blueprint. Saudi Arabia became the first country to pilot this global framework, which provides building blocks for developing a national quantum ecosystem.
