The Office for Information Technology and e-Administration of the Government of the Republic of Serbia announced on June 14, 2022, that the country had become a member of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). The initiative, based in Luxembourg, was founded in 2018 by the European Commission and allows its members to coordinate efforts and pool resources in the field of supercomputing.

EuroHPC JU membership gives Serbian researchers, public sector bodies, and industry access to Europe’s network of supercomputers and related infrastructure, including the quantum computing systems being integrated into EuroHPC sites. Serbia joined alongside other non-EU participating states such as Iceland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

As part of the EuroHPC framework, the Joint Undertaking also oversees the deployment of European quantum computing infrastructure, integrating quantum technologies with existing supercomputers across the continent. Serbian participation in EuroHPC JU opened a pathway for the country’s researchers to engage with these emerging quantum computing resources.
