Slovakia signed the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) Declaration in December 2019, joining a group of EU member states committed to exploring the development and deployment of a pan-European quantum communication network. According to the European Commission announcement, Slovakia was among nine countries that signed the declaration in late 2019, alongside Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Finland, France, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Sweden.

Richard Raši, Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Informatization, stated at the signing that “quantum technology will most likely be the next most important general purpose technology after AI” and that “the efforts to be done in this domain exceed individual investment and research capabilities of Member States.”

By signing, Slovakia committed to working with the European Commission and the European Space Agency to prepare an action plan covering technological options, funding requirements, and security certification schemes for a future quantum communication infrastructure spanning the EU.
