On December 8, 2025, IonQ announced through its subsidiary ID Quantique (IDQ) the deployment of Slovakia’s first national quantum communication network, developed in partnership with the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (IPSAS). According to the announcement, the system was deployed under the Slovak Quantum Communication Infrastructure (skQCI) project as part of Slovakia’s contribution to the EU-wide EuroQCI initiative.

IDQ provided a 1-to-N Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) architecture serving four strategic locations through a central QKD node. In the Bratislava metropolitan area, the network connects the Office of the President (Presidential Palace), the National Security Authority facilities, and the Quantum Pavilion of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. A hybrid QKD and post-quantum cryptography (PQC) system provides cross-country connection between western and eastern Slovakia.

IPSAS led the deployment with support from QUTE.sk, the Slovak National Center for Quantum Technologies. Mario Ziman, Director at the Institute of Physics SAS, said the initiative “demonstrates the real-world use cases of integrating innovative quantum technologies across critical national institutions.”
