South Korea: IonQ Signs MOU With Ministry of Science and ICT for Quantum Workforce Development

On June 27, 2023, IonQ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT to educate quantum science and technology professionals and promote the creation of a local quantum ecosystem. MSIT Minister Lee Jong-ho and IonQ Co-Founder and CTO Jungsang Kim signed the agreement at Quantum Korea 2023 in Seoul.

According to IonQ’s announcement, the MOU committed both parties to mutual cooperation in supporting South Korea’s quantum computing industry. IonQ would operate an education, training, and leadership expansion program for masters and doctorate students, postdoctoral researchers, and quantum industry professionals. The agreement was one of several strategic partnerships with international quantum companies announced alongside the national quantum strategy.
