On May 7, 2025, the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) formally joined the QuantERA consortium as an Associated Partner, making South Korea the first Asian funding agency to participate in the European quantum research network. The Letter of Intent was handed over by the NRF delegation to the QuantERA Coordinator at the QuantERA Strategic Conference in Gdansk, Poland.

According to QuantERA, Korean-funded research teams would for the first time participate in QuantERA calls for proposals. NRF committed EUR 1.6 million in funding for the Call 2025. Kim Seok-Ho, programme officer at NRF, stated that participation in QuantERA would allow Korea to fund projects carried out jointly with Europe’s most advanced countries. The Call 2025, launched in September 2025, covers quantum phenomena and resources and applied quantum science topics.
