On January 18, 2024, the national security advisors of South Korea, the United States, and Japan celebrated the signing of a trilateral quantum partnership between Seoul National University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Tokyo. The partnership was established to train a quantum workforce and strengthen collective competitiveness in quantum technology.

According to The Korea Herald, South Korean National Security Advisor Chang Ho-jin, U.S. counterpart Jake Sullivan, and Japanese counterpart Takeo Akiba issued a joint statement congratulating the three universities.
