Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) launched the Quantum Computer Project in August 2018, marking the government’s first dedicated funding program for quantum technology research. The project, running from August 2018 through July 2023, sought to integrate quantum computer research resources across industry, universities, and academic institutions in Taiwan.

According to the National Science and Technology Council program page, the initiative covered quantum elements and physics, quantum algorithms and programming, quantum computers, and quantum communication. It supported university teams including the Quantum Technology Research Center at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and the IBM-NTU Quantum Computing Center at National Taiwan University.

MOST stated that the program’s goals included keeping pace with global developments, boosting Taiwan’s profile in quantum computing technology, and cultivating talent in the field.
