Thailand’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yodchanan Wongsawat, outlined eight strategic pillars for the ministry in April 2026, listing investment in frontier innovation including quantum technology as one of the pillars. According to The Nation Thailand, the plan focuses on developing Thailand into a hub for key industries including semiconductors, AI, and quantum technology.
A core element of the strategy is the creation of a national innovation ecosystem linking universities with public and private sectors. MHESI will pursue education and research in new technologies while transferring technology from abroad, with the goal of Thailand becoming a high-income country. Permanent Secretary Supachai Pathumnakul and executives from all agencies under MHESI attended the policy briefing.
Yodchanan stated that MHESI must support every sector, covering the economy, security, society, and disaster response. He said the ministry intended to pursue both domestic research in quantum and other frontier technologies and technology transfer from overseas to lay the groundwork for self-reliance in critical technology domains.
