In September 2020, Thailand’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation announced ฿200 million (approximately USD 6 million) to develop quantum technology over eight years. According to Qureca’s global quantum initiatives tracker, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) published the Quantum Technology Roadmap 2020–2029, guiding development in three focus areas: quantum computing and simulation, quantum communication, and quantum metrology and sensing.

A report on the Quantum Technology Roadmap 2020–2029 was published by the National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) in collaboration with the scientific community. NXPO described it as a framework for quantum technology development in Thailand.

Under the roadmap, TSRI approved a 10-year development plan covering the three research areas. Annual budgets were secured through the Program Management Unit system. The roadmap made Thailand the first ASEAN member state outside Singapore to articulate a formal national-level quantum technology development plan.
