Southeast Asia’s first quantum hackathon took place in Bangkok from August 3–5, 2025, alongside the Thailand Quantum Summit 2025. According to the Open Quantum Institute at CERN, the hackathon was organized by Suranaree University of Technology’s QTRic, PMU-B, the Open Quantum Institute, QWorld, and Amazon Web Services.
Twenty-four participants from multiple nationalities and academic backgrounds formed six teams to tackle societal issues relevant to Southeast Asia, including climate change, healthcare, and renewable energy, using quantum computing approaches aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Coordinators and mentors joined from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
The Thailand Quantum Summit 2025, hosted by the Quantum Technology Research Initiative (QTRI), ran concurrently. Official sponsors included QTRic, PMU-B, and the National Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Policy Board (NXPO). Sessions covered quantum finance algorithms, use cases, and ecosystem development across the Asia-Pacific region.
