Togo Co-Sponsors UN Resolution Proclaiming 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

On June 7, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/RES/78/287, proclaiming 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). Togo was listed among the additional co-sponsors of the draft resolution, which was introduced by the Ghanaian delegation and co-sponsored by more than 70 countries.

According to the resolution, the initiative aims to increase public awareness of quantum science and its applications, with a focus on strengthening national capacities in science education and research. The UN recognized quantum science and technology as relevant to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including advances in health, energy, infrastructure, and climate action.

Togo joined a broad coalition of co-sponsors that included Algeria, Angola, Argentina, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, the United States, and dozens of other nations. UNESCO serves as the lead agency for IYQ coordination.
