The Faculty of Science at the University of Tunis El Manar established a Research Master’s Program in Nanophysics and Nanotechnology for the 2019-2020 academic year. According to a program profile published by AfriSciTech, the two-year program was designed for graduate students in physics, chemistry, and engineering. Courses in nanophotonics, nanomagnetism, and quantum information were introduced as part of the curriculum, with some taught for the first time at a Tunisian university.
Coordinated by Prof. Najeh Mliki Thabet, the program enrolled its first class of twelve students from various Tunisian universities. The curriculum combined physics, chemistry, mathematics, and scientific programming, with a research internship component in laboratories or R&D companies. Students were expected to join research groups in Tunisia or abroad to work on projects in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
The University of Tunis El Manar hosts the Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Quantum Phenomena (LMAPQ) at its Faculty of Sciences, one of the country’s primary centers for quantum-relevant materials research. The master’s program represented the first structured postgraduate pathway in Tunisia to include dedicated quantum information coursework.
