The Tunisian Quantum Network, known as QUANTUN, launched in October 2021 with the goal of coordinating Tunisian researchers working in quantum physics and quantum technologies. As reported by The Quantum Insider, the network was coordinated by Sihem Jaziri, a professor at the University of Carthage’s Faculty of Sciences, and Mourad Telmini, a professor of physics at the University of Tunis El Manar.
Telmini brought extensive institutional experience to the initiative. He had served as Director General of Tunisia’s National Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology from 2010 to 2012, was Vice-Chair of the African Commission on Nuclear Energy from 2011 to 2014, and held a commission membership with the International Union for Pure and Applied Physics from 2006 to 2014. He also served as Scientific Leader of the Tunisian Atomic Clock project and as President of the Tunisian Metrology Association.
QUANTUN joined a growing set of national and regional quantum coordination initiatives across Africa, following the model of the South African Quantum Technology Initiative (SA QuTI). The network sought to help Tunisian researchers contribute to quantum technology development on the African continent.
