On July 26, 2024, Science Secretary Peter Kyle announced the launch of five new Quantum Technology Research Hubs, supported by a £160 million investment. The hubs were delivered by EPSRC, with £106 million from EPSRC, the UKRI Biotechnology and Biological Research Council, UKRI Medical Research Council, and the National Institute for Health and Care Research. Industry contributions provided more than £54 million in additional cash and in-kind support, according to the UKRI announcement.

The five hubs are: QCI3 (Hub for Quantum Computing via Integrated and Interconnected Implementations), led by the University of Oxford; IQN (Integrated Quantum Networks), led by Heriot-Watt University; Q-BIOMED (Quantum Biomedical Sensing), led by University College London; QuSIT (Sensing, Imaging and Timing), led by the University of Birmingham; and QEPNT (Quantum Enabled Position, Navigation and Timing), led by the University of Glasgow.

Each hub received £15 million to £19.5 million in funding for up to 60 months, with a latest start date of December 2024. The hubs represent the third phase of Quantum Technology Hubs, following Phase 1 (2014-2019) and Phase 2 (2019-2024), and form a key component of the National Quantum Strategy.
