On November 4, 2021, the United Kingdom and the United States signed a joint statement of intent on cooperation in quantum information sciences and technologies. The statement was signed by UK Science Minister George Freeman and US Presidential Science Advisor Dr. Eric Lander, according to the UK government announcement.
The joint statement set out shared priorities for continued cooperation, including promoting joint research and development efforts between national quantum programmes, growing the global market for quantum technologies, and providing training opportunities for scientists and engineers. It also facilitated collaboration between the UK National Physical Laboratory and the US National Institute of Standards and Technology on quantum metrology, computing, clocks, and future technical standards.
An enhanced partnership between the US National Science Foundation and UK Research and Innovation was also announced. On the same day, Innovate UK announced results of a £50 million competition funding 12 projects to commercialize quantum technologies.
