DOE Renews Five National Quantum Research Centers With $625 Million

On November 4, 2025, the U.S. Department of Energy announced $625 million in funding to renew its five National Quantum Information Science Research Centers for a second five-year phase. The centers were originally established in 2020 under the National Quantum Initiative Act.

Awards of $125 million each were made through competitive peer review, with $125 million allocated in fiscal year 2025 and outyear funding contingent on congressional appropriations. The renewed centers will pursue fundamental science across quantum computing, simulation, networking, and sensing, while developing workforce opportunities and industry partnerships.
