On January 13, 2026, the G7 Cyber Expert Group published its statement on advancing a coordinated roadmap for the transition to post-quantum cryptography in the financial sector. The document says it is intended to help financial authorities and financial entities manage the cryptographic risks that quantum computers may create for data security and financial resilience. The statement was issued during Canada’s 2025 G7 presidency, which included quantum technology among its digital priorities.

The statement sets out a phased roadmap built around strategy and governance, cryptographic inventory and dependency mapping, risk assessment and prioritization, solution design and testing, third-party coordination, migration execution, and continued cryptographic agility. It is directed at boards, senior management, authorities, service providers, and other stakeholders in the financial sector.
