On January 13, 2023, Minister François-Philippe Champagne launched Canada’s National Quantum Strategy. The announcement said the strategy was backed by CAD 360 million (~US$265 million) first committed in Budget 2021.
Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada said the strategy would operate through three missions covering computing hardware and software, communications including a national secure quantum communications network and post-quantum cryptography capabilities, and sensors. The launch also set out dedicated funding of CAD 141 million for research, CAD 45 million for talent, and CAD 169 million for commercialization, and named Raymond Laflamme and Stephanie Simmons as co-chairs of a new advisory council in the National Quantum Strategy launch release.
