On March 1, 2023, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) reported that it had launched its Applied Quantum Computing Challenge program on November 25, 2022. The NRC says the program is intended to build on Canada’s position in applied quantum computing by delivering quantum applications and software and by developing technologies for human health, climate change, and advanced materials.

The NRC’s Quarterly Financial Report for the quarter ended December 31, 2022 says the program was developed in alignment with the National Quantum Strategy and would allow the NRC to work with industry, academia, and federal partners on applications of quantum computing for public service operations and commercial innovation.
