On October 14, 2021, the CERN Quantum Technology Initiative (QTI) published its first strategic roadmap defining the medium- and long-term quantum research program. A press release from CERN stated the roadmap details QTI goals and strategy, outlines its governing structure, and describes the composition of an international advisory board.
Kerstin Borras and Yasser Omar, co-chairs of the newly formed advisory board, said in a statement that CERN could play a key role as a facilitator of cross-disciplinary discussions about the role of quantum technologies in science. Board members, nominated by the 23 CERN Member States, would promote collaboration between the quantum technology and high-energy physics communities in their respective countries.
Education and training were identified as core elements of the roadmap. Building on the success of its first online course on quantum computing, CERN QTI announced plans to extend its academia-industry training program to cultivate competencies across R&D and engineering activities.
