On February 5, 2025, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched ELEV8PH, a suite of eight research and development programs addressing frontier technologies. Quantum computing was designated as one of the eight priority areas. According to a DOST news release, the launch event took place at the Dusit Thani Manila and brought together stakeholders from industry, academia, international partners, and the DOST research community.

Under the quantum computing component, DOST committed to enhancing the computing power and capabilities of local industry. The initiative also called for developing strategic human resource capabilities and promoting innovative R&D technologies and facilities. Other ELEV8PH pillars included artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, biologics in pharmaceuticals, and smart technologies.

DOST-PCIEERD Deputy Executive Director Niñaliza H. Escorial told GovInsider that quantum technology had been identified as a priority in PCIEERD’s call for proposals since 2024, as well as under its Human Resource Development Programme.
