On January 6, 2022, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted the Strategy for the Digital Transformation of the Economy, covering the period from 2021 to 2030. According to the government announcement, the strategy identifies quantum computing alongside artificial intelligence, the internet of things, big data, blockchain, high-performance computing, and 5G as advanced digital technologies that will drive economic growth and competitiveness.

Funding for implementation was set at €26.5 million in 2022, €24 million in 2023, and €6 million in 2024, to be delivered by the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology in cooperation with the SPIRIT Slovenia Public Agency, the Slovene Enterprise Fund, and SID Bank. Primary funding was drawn from Slovenia’s national Recovery and Resilience Plan.

While the strategy does not constitute a dedicated quantum policy, it represents the first formal inclusion of quantum computing among the Slovenian government’s technology priorities. The strategy set a target of placing Slovenia among the top five EU countries in advanced digital technology use within two years and among the top three by 2030.
