On December 8, 2025, Canadian Minister Evan Solomon and German Minister Karsten Wildberger announced the Canada-Germany Digital Alliance on the margins of the G7 Industry, Digital and Technology Ministers’ Meeting in Montreal. The alliance established a strategic framework for cooperation on AI, digital sovereignty, digital infrastructure, quantum technologies, and the digital economy, according to the Government of Canada announcement.

Building on the Kananaskis Common Vision for the Future of Quantum Technologies and the G7 Leaders’ Statement from June 2025, Canada and Germany agreed to launch a joint call for proposals in January 2026 to advance the commercialization of quantum computing and quantum sensing technologies. The National Research Council of Canada and the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space would lead the initiative.
