In the first half of 2025, Hungary’s National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) set up a cross-departmental working group on artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. According to reporting by Hungarian Conservative, the initiative was led by deputy director-general Péter Vári and aimed to prepare the authority and Hungary’s wider telecoms sector for the adoption of next-generation technologies.
NMHH identified artificial intelligence, space communications, and quantum technologies as the three most decisive fields shaping the future of infocommunications. The authority stated that quantum communication deserved equal attention alongside AI and space-related innovations, and that it considered keeping pace with these advances a strategic priority.
Earlier in 2025, NMHH’s Budapest conference centre hosted events organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT). An April cybersecurity conference co-organized by NMHH featured discussions on quantum communication, including a session on an intercontinental quantum link between China and South Africa.
