On October 22, 2025, Hungary’s Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence László Palkovics and IBM Hungary head Árpád Pikéthy jointly announced the launch of the Quantum and Supercomputing Platform at the 16th Infotér conference. According to HUN-REN SZTAKI, founding members included the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, with HUN-REN SZTAKI as a core participant.
During the announcement, organizers noted that the HunAIFA consortium, led by HUN-REN SZTAKI Deputy Director Róbert Lovas, had been awarded funding under the EuroHPC AI Factory Antenna programme. HUN-REN SZTAKI stated that this placed Hungary among the first countries to access Europe’s largest supercomputer.
According to HUN-REN SZTAKI, the platform’s ultimate goal was to achieve national successes at the international level by enabling the establishment of a Hungarian quantum innovation centre and supporting advanced domestic research with a quantum computer installed in Hungary.
