On October 11, 2024, the International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA) submitted a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urging the prioritization of quantum technologies during Canada’s G7 Presidency in 2025. The letter was signed by the leaders of the four founding ICQIA consortia: Quantum Industry Canada (QIC), the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C), the Quantum STrategic industry Alliance for Revolution (Q-STAR), and the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC).
As published by Quantum Industry Canada, the letter noted that the 2025 G7 Presidency would coincide with the United Nations International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. ICQIA, described as representing nearly 600 stakeholders across the international quantum innovation ecosystem including all G7 nations and the European Union, called on Canada to use its presidency to enhance cooperation among G7 nations on quantum supply chains, talent pipelines, and economic growth.
Copies of the letter were also addressed to Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, the Minister of National Defence, and the Minister of International Trade. The letter also highlighted the upcoming QUANTUM NOW forum in Montreal, scheduled for June 2025, as a potential venue for G7-related discussions on quantum technologies.
