Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) established a dedicated Research Center for Quantum Physics in 2022. According to the center’s website, the facility was created with the primary goal of exploring the fundamentals of quantum physics and its applications for near-future technology, in anticipation of Indonesia’s vision for a “golden age” by 2045.

Located at the B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Park in Serpong, South Tangerang, the center organized its researchers into groups covering quantum information and computation, quantum materials, quantum devices, quantum matter theory, quantum simulation, and high-energy physics. By January 2026, the center reported 38 full-time researchers, several postdoctoral fellows, and more than 50 affiliated students from universities across Indonesia.

BRIN-Q, as the center is known, recruits through the National Talent Management system and accepts short-term visiting researchers. It has hosted regular colloquia with international speakers from institutions including the National University of Singapore, Sorbonne Université, and Tsinghua University.
