Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya launched the ITS Quantum Computing and Information Group on June 20, 2022, establishing what the university described as the first research community in Indonesia focused on quantum computer technology. The group was inaugurated in a hybrid ceremony opened by the ITS Director of Research and Community Service, Fadlilatul Taufany, according to the university’s announcement.

Before pursuing hardware acquisition, the group said it would concentrate on developing technology grounded in quantum theory principles, with initial work focused on quantum algorithms and computation research. ITS physics professor Darminto presented the group’s research agenda during the launch event.

The announcement was also carried by the Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. ITS described the initiative as responding to national and international research objectives in quantum computing, positioning the university within a field where major global companies have made substantial investments.
