The Research Council of Norway (RCN) allocated NOK 43 million to develop national research infrastructure for quantum technology in 2025. The funding supported two main tracks: the Q-NRI project, which received NOK 8 million to extend national e-infrastructure into the quantum domain, and NorFab, which received NOK 35 million to enhance infrastructure for quantum sensor and component development.

According to SINTEF, the Q-NRI project, coordinated by Sigma2, establishes the technical and organizational foundations for Norwegian access to the European LUMI-Q quantum computer. Starting in 2025, Norwegian researchers can connect existing high-performance computing workflows with quantum computing resources through the national e-infrastructure operated by Sigma2 and Simula.

NorFab, the Norwegian Micro- and Nanofabrication Facility, was awarded NOK 35 million from the Research Council to ensure Norway remains competitive in quantum technology, according to NorFab. Both investments formed part of the government’s broader quantum technology commitment announced in the 2025 budget.
