Norway Allocates 50 New University Study Places in Quantum Technology

On October 15, 2025, Minister of Research and Higher Education Sigrun Aasland announced the allocation of 50 new study places in quantum technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) during a visit to Trondheim to present the national budget, according to NTNU.

According to NordForsk, the 2026 national budget also proposes that an additional NOK 150 million be allocated annually for five years to a new initiative promoting quantum technology in industry. A total of 100 new student places in quantum technology are planned to ensure future expertise for Norwegian research and technology-based industry.

The workforce initiative comes alongside the NOK 1.1 billion five-year quantum technology package announced in August 2025 and the launch of the national quantum strategy process in May 2025.
