The Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) inaugurated the Quantum and Intelligent Systems Laboratory for Power Engineering (QISLaP) on March 21, 2025, with ₱18 million (approximately $314,000) in funding from DOST-PCIEERD. According to the Philippine News Agency, QISLaP is the country’s first research laboratory dedicated to using quantum computing to improve the reliability and efficiency of the energy sector.

Established under the Quantum Research for Industrial Energy Technology (Q-RIEnTe) project, the lab will develop hybrid quantum computing models to predict energy metrics and optimize production, distribution, and consumption. The facility is open to TIP researchers and students, as well as external collaborators, and was created in partnership with Batangas Electric Cooperative.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. stated that the investment addresses current energy challenges while establishing a foundation for more resilient and sustainable energy systems. DOST-PCIEERD Director Enrico Paringit described the facility as a research ground for creating solutions to make energy systems more efficient.
