The Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), a sectoral council of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), initiated its first round of research funding for quantum technology in 2021. According to a GovInsider report, the funding was directed toward projects that strengthen quantum research infrastructure under the Philippine Quantum Technology Roadmap.
PCIEERD received one quantum-related research proposal in 2021, marking the beginning of government-funded quantum research activity in the country. The funding round laid the groundwork for subsequent initiatives, including the establishment of laboratory facilities and workforce training programs at DOST’s Advanced Science and Technology Institute.
