The Philippine Quantum Technology Roadmap was updated in October 2025, extending its target date from 2030 to 2035. According to GovInsider, DOST-PCIEERD acknowledged that more work was needed to achieve the roadmap’s goals of positioning the Philippines as a key player in quantum computing in Southeast Asia with its own functioning quantum network and research capabilities.
DOST-PCIEERD Deputy Executive Director and Officer-in-Charge Niñaliza H. Escorial told GovInsider that the biggest challenges facing the country’s quantum ambitions are a limited pool of trained quantum experts and insufficient laboratory and computing facilities, along with the need for steady funding. She noted that since 2024, quantum technology has been identified as a priority in PCIEERD’s call for proposals and under its Human Resource Development Programme.
