On June 27, 2023, the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking signed hosting agreements with six sites across Europe to host and operate EuroHPC quantum computers, including EuroQCS-Poland at the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC). According to the EuroHPC JU announcement, the signing ceremony took place in Luxembourg with representatives of all six hosting entities, the European Commission, and EuroHPC JU.
EuroQCS-Poland was to be hosted by PSNC and integrated into HPC infrastructure in Poznań, accessible remotely via the PIONIER national research and education network. The EuroQCS-Poland consortium proposed developing a quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computers co-funded under the program drew from the Digital Europe Programme budget and contributions from 17 participating member states, with total planned investment exceeding EUR 100 million.
