On July 10, 2024, the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and Alpine Quantum Technologies (AQT) of Innsbruck, Austria, signed the procurement contract for EuroQCS-Poland, the EuroHPC quantum computer to be located in Poland. AQT was selected following a call for tender launched in October 2023, according to the EuroHPC JU press release.
EuroQCS-Poland will be a digital, gate-based quantum computer based on trapped ions, offering 20-plus physical qubits. The system is co-funded with a total acquisition cost of EUR 12.28 million, split equally between the EuroHPC JU and Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs. It will be hosted at PSNC in Poznań and integrated into the local HPC infrastructure for hybrid quantum-classical computing.
PSNC leads the EuroQCS-Poland consortium, which includes the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Creotech Instruments S.A., and the University of Latvia. Installation was scheduled to begin in mid-2025.
