On February 4, 2022, the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), affiliated with the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, joined the IBM Quantum Network as the first IBM Quantum Innovation Center in Central and Eastern Europe. According to the PSNC announcement, the center would explore quantum computing applications in artificial intelligence, space technologies, metrology, and crisis modeling.

Janusz Cieszyński, Secretary of State at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and Government Plenipotentiary for Cybersecurity, stated that the incorporation of quantum computers into Poland’s strategic resources was one of the tasks undertaken under the Cyber Poland 2025 program. The PSNC initiative was funded through a special-purpose subsidy from the Prime Minister, using funds allocated by the Minister of Digitization.

IBM Quantum Network members received access to IBM’s quantum computing systems, including the 127-qubit Eagle processor. Prof. Roman Słowiński, Vice President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, noted that Polish scientific communities had identified PSNC as the center with the appropriate personnel and technical potential to serve as the national access point for IBM quantum resources.
