On May 23, 2022, nineteen Polish scientific and commercial entities announced the establishment of the Quantum Technologies Cluster (Klaster Technologii Kwantowych, or Q Cluster) at the Centre of New Technologies of the University of Warsaw. According to Science in Poland, the cluster was formed to coordinate the development of quantum technologies across the country’s research and business sectors.

Prof. Artur Ekert, a pioneer of quantum cryptography, contributed to the cluster’s establishment and emphasized the importance of building an ecosystem jointly supported by science, business, and state institutions. Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, attended the launch event and noted that the cluster followed a quantum initiative launched two years earlier by eight leading Polish research centers.

Academic members included the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University, the University of Gdańsk, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and two institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Eleven companies joined the cluster, including Beit, Exatel, Creotech Instruments subsidiary ORCA Computing, and several quantum startups.
