Countries & Organisations

Singapore established the National Quantum Office (NQO) in April 2022 as a national platform to drive the development and implementation of the country’s quantum strategy. The office was set up with the support of the National Research Foundation (NRF) and hosted by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), according to the NQO website.

NQO was tasked with coordinating quantum Research, Innovation, and Enterprise (RIE) activities across Singapore. Its mandate included developing and driving implementation of the National Quantum Strategy, coordinating major public investments in quantum technologies, promoting the growth of Singapore’s quantum research and engineering talent pool, and building public-private partnerships and international collaborations.

Ling Keok Tong, formerly Director of Smart Nation and Digital Economy at NRF, was appointed Executive Director. The office reported to a National Quantum Steering Committee that brought together stakeholders from the research ecosystem and the public sector.
