The National University of Singapore (NUS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on August 2, 2021, to collaborate on the development of quantum communication and computing technologies, according to a NUS announcement. The collaboration was led by the Quantum Engineering Programme (QEP).

Under the MoU, AWS agreed to support QEP in quantum computing research and to connect to the National Quantum-Safe Network for quantum communications. Areas of cooperation included identification of use cases, development of applications for potential commercialization, and joint organization of academic and public outreach activities.

Quantum technologies had been identified as a key technology area under the Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2025 Plan managed by the NRF. AWS provided access to quantum computing through Amazon Braket, its fully managed quantum computing service offering access to quantum annealers and gate-based systems.
