Singapore’s Quantum Engineering Programme launched the National Quantum Sensor Programme (NQSP) in August 2024, as part of the National Quantum Strategy announced in May 2024, according to a review published by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.

NQSP focuses on three areas: position, navigation, and timing (PNT); biomedical sensing and imaging; and remote sensing. These research projects can be applied to environmental monitoring, civil engineering, precise navigation systems, and biomedical applications.

A National Quantum Processor Initiative (NQPI) was also launched in 2024 to build Singapore’s capabilities in designing and manufacturing processors for quantum computers using trapped ions and neutral atom arrays. Both programmes operate under QEP 3.0, the third phase of the Quantum Engineering Programme.
