A national strategy for quantum technologies is under development in Slovenia, according to a report published by the Slovenia Times in April 2025, ahead of World Quantum Day. The strategy will outline the further development of the field in Slovenia and the country’s involvement in joint European efforts to build infrastructure, educate personnel, and support industrialization.
Rok Žitko, a quantum physics researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute, wrote that Slovenia has “considerable potential for further development of quantum science in basic research, as well as for developing solutions at higher levels of technological readiness.” He cited the country’s scientific excellence, skilled staff, and strong links with international groups and companies.
Among ongoing national efforts, Žitko identified SiQUID as one of the most visible quantum technology projects. He also noted the active role of the QUTES community (Slovene quantum science and technology community) and the SQUASH postdoctoral program. Several Slovenian companies, including Cosylab, Instrumentation Technologies, TipPri, CREAPLUS, and startup AtomQL, were listed as active in quantum technology development.
