Vinnova, Sweden’s government innovation agency, announced funding for the Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform (QSIP), a national collaborative platform for quantum technology innovation. According to Vinnova’s announcement, QSIP would be based at Chalmers Industriteknik and received SEK 3 million (approximately USD 280,000) to cover an initial implementation phase during its first year, with the project contributing an equal amount.
Ulf Öhlander of Vinnova said there was “a need for a national collaborative platform for innovation in quantum technology that brings together leading and new Swedish participants.” Also involved in the project were WACQT-IP, RISE, GU Ventures, and the innovation offices at KTH, Lund University, Linköping University, and Chalmers, along with companies Ericsson, Scalinq, and Con-science.
QSIP was modeled on AI Sweden, the national center for applied AI launched in 2019 with Vinnova funding. The platform would conduct activities and networks supporting organizations and researchers in innovation and commercialization but would not itself provide direct financial support to individual actors.
